In 1966 I did my very first SCUBA dive...I was 10 years old and became New Zealands "youngest certified SCUBA diver'... In 2010 I was able to realise a dream 45 years in the making when I visited the Oceanographic Institute in Monaco... The passion and enthusiasm that has flowered throughout my entire life was planted by Jacques Cousteau...reading the comments on this page I can see how this man touched the lives of all of us, and touched the life of this planet. With tears in my eyes I salute you! You always were and always will be "Mon Commandant", my Captain. Brian Moller

Bonne Fetes & Happy Birthday! Jacques Cousteau, (& Canadian Dr. David Suzuki) are among my greatest environmental heroes from the time I was a child. I've been inspired in my teaching career & environmental & social activitism. Thanks & cheers! Venetia Gonsalves

if only more men with your love for our earth, and our sea"s were still alive we would be a greater race, and people we would care for the things that dont belong to us,but are a gift to be loved and not taken for granted,we are only keepers of the lamp,we have so much to be thankful for,mr.Cousteau you have made a difference in this world that seems to give little appreciation for the planet that has given us so much.I only hope that people will realize how our oceans have given us life, made it possible to feed our families, you have been a man of men and I thank you for that....I love to dive and when I do I think of you and thank you for it.......lee lee verrill

A good friend and I had the pleasure of meeting and cave diving with Tom Mount in some of the fresh water cave systems in North central Flordia. This was way back in the early 70's. Tom Mount was one of the divers along with Doctor Benjerman(not sure if I spelled the doctor's name correctly-I appoligize if so.)that had found a stalagmite at the 300 foot level in the Hondorus Blue Hole. I still remember the picture of the Calypso anchored in the center of that blue hole. What a beautiful picture! Thanks for all of the education that you and your crews passed on to the world. You were a man way ahead of your time. An interesting note, that a friend has a son that is taking scuba lessons here in northern colorado. I can't dive any more due to health issues so I gave the son the remaining dive gear that I still had. The gear included a U.S.Divers double hose regulator, the regulator that I took my first scuba lessons back in the 1960's. Thanks again, Sincerly, Tom Muzydla Tom Muzydla

Miroslav Knezevic

I apologize for waiting thirty five years to say thank you for the inspiration that led me to the career I have today as a Fishery Biologist. At age 54, I just completed my PADI Dive certification. William Edwards

I shall always remember fondly the time I met Mr. Cousteau. He was so incredibly kind and gentle. I thought to myself how lucky his grandchildren were. Happy Birthday "Captain." Robin
