International Underwater and Adventure Film Festival

Beginning in 2010, Equipe Cousteau and experts in diving and film organize the prestigious festival christened “Mediterranea - International Underwater and Adventure Film Festival” in collaboration with the Office of Tourism and Conventions of Antibes Juan-les-Pins.

Between February 25 and 28, 2010, Antibes Juan-les-Pins will host this exhibit that has deep roots in the city that welcomed the pioneers of diving, notably Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau and his famous ship Calypso, transformed in an exploration vessel in the 1950s in a naval shipyard in Antibes. The 2010 edition will be firmly oriented to the concepts of sustainable development and coastal protection and to making the greater community, especially children more aware, with a symposium open to the greater public and activities devoted to schools and families.

An event within an event, the symposium “Economic Stakes and Protection of the Mediterranean Environment” will bring together for two days a variety of people involved in the environment and the coast: scientists, maritime professionals, managers of protected areas, elected representatives and jurists will provide presentations open to the public. This year, emphasis will be placed on the protection of coastal ecosystems and the urbanization of tourist zones, drawing on examples in the Mediterranean but also on outside projects, from marine reserves to artificial islands.

A word from the organizers

Philippe Baute – Director of the Office of Tourism and Conventions of Antibes Juan-les-Pins
"We wanted to give a new impetus to the festival by refocusing on the concepts of sustainable development and coastal protection. We are very happy to be organizing this festival with Equipe Cousteau because of the synchronicity of personalities and goals."

Francine Cousteau – President of Equipe Cousteau
"Organizing this festival is consistent with our work. Films and photos, lavishly used by Captain Cousteau, are part of a whole that should lead citizens and elected representatives to behave better with regard to their environment. The goal is that, in the end, the festival makes participants not just viewers but also actors."
