Based on its expertise for environmental education, in collaboration with the Minas Gerais State in Brazil and the UNESCO-HidroEx center, the Cousteau Society developed a program for kids from 6 to 11 years old focused on freshwater issues named Agente Cousteau.

Beginning in the municipalities of Frutal and Uberaba, it reaches today more than 150 000 ; by 2014, the program will be used in all public schools in the state of Minas Gerais, helping 4 million students in the understanding of the interdependence of all living things and the importance of water.

Besides a virtual learning environment (, the project has a Cousteau mascot which teaches children the importance freshwater and how everyone can contribute to the preservation and sustainable use of this key natural ressource.
