Prince Albert II of Monaco spurs #MyOceanPledge signature

On June 8th 2017, World Oceans Day, his Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco was the first to sign #MyOceanPledge. The pledge was launched by children who come from over 12 UNESCO marine World Heritage Sites in front of 40 Heads of State during a high-level event at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, organized by the UNESCO World Heritage Marine Programme.

Among these children were Ahmed and Mohamed from Sudan’s representing Sudan’s recently declared Marine World Heritagesite of  Sanganeb Atoll Marine National Park and Dungonab Bay – Mukkawar Island National Park.COUSTEAU is proud to have contributed to this area’s inscription on this list as we have been present in the region for over a decade. It is also here that Captain Jacques Cousteau undertook, in 1963, the pioneering life underwater experiment: Conshelf 2, documented in the film the World Without Sun winner of the 1964 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

The pledge “to protect the ocean for future generations“, is one we at Cousteau are of course very eager to support as Captain Cousteau said “Tomorrow I want the rights of those who succeed us to be inscribed in the duties of those who exist. If by my work I have allowed my children and those who are not yet born to live in the symphony of the world, I will have fulfilled my mission.”

Prince Albert II was joined by, Ms Irina Bokova, the Director-General of UNESCO as well as Adrian Grenier, actor and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for the Environment.

The pledge is open to the public, to join up and sign #MyOceanPledge today:
